Originally built as a spa resort the town of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire has some of the finest examples of Regency architecture. The Grade I Listed Pump Rooms located in Pittville Park is the largest of the former spa buildings built. Surrounded by parks, trees and lakes, today it is a private use venue, however the medicinal waters of the fountain can still be sampled.
Other historic places to visit in the town include Landsdown Crescent, a Regency Period Terrace and Charlton Park, now the site of a school.
The other major attraction in Cheltenham is the race track. In March the Cheltenham Festival takes place with the Gold Cup as the main event.
